Alan J. Prewitt
Alan
is a native of St. Louis County, Missouri. He moved to Phoenix in 1980 and has
been the Artistic Director of Phoenix Theatre's Cookie Company for
the last 22 seasons. He is also the Company's resident playwright, with
over 68 original produced scripts to his credit, plus scripts for the Phoenix
Symphony and the Phoenix Boys Choir. Alan is also the Director of
Education Programs and Resources for Phoenix Theatre and an artist on the
Arizona Commission On the Arts Roster. Alan has been honored with the
National Society of Arts and Letters Career Achievement Award, the
Arizona Theatre Alliance Award of Excellence, the AriZoni
"Outstanding Contribution Award", in addition to 10 Arizoni awards
for excellence in theatre. Alan is a pioneer in the field of shadow-signed
theatre and audio-reverse interpreting for the hearing impaired. He has also
initiated "Spanish Infusion" program for Cookie Company in which scripts
are infused with key lines translated for children who first language is
Spanish. Alan is seen as a mime all around the Valley, and his long-running role
as Benjamin Franklin takes him into classrooms across the state and via
satellite transmissions, all around the world. His new family musical, The
Quiltmaker’s Gift had its world premier at the Phoenix Theatre in 2002. He
is currently preparing several other scripts for future publication.
