Mary Bracken Phillips is an award winning playwright, lyricist, and actress. A Broadway veteran, her credits include Martha Jefferson in 1776 and Grace Farrell in Annie. Off -Broadway credits include Look Where I'm At for which she won the Variety Critics Poll for "Best Actress In An Off Broadway Musical". As a writer, her works have garnered national attention and productions which include the Goodspeed Opera House, The Old Globe Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Willows Theatre, and Majestic Theatre. She was nominated for the1992 Tony Award for her lyrics for the Broadway musical Metro and took nine Bay Area Critics Awards for her musical Brimstone. She wrote the book and lyrics for Mountain Days (composer Craig Bohmler) a musical on the life of naturalist John Muir. Annual productions take place in a theatre built for “Mountain Days” in Martinez, CA. Current projects include book and lyrics for The Mystery Of Winchester House (commissioned by the San Jose Rep) and Sacagawea (commissioned by the WillowsTheatre ) both with composer Craig Bohmler. She was the recipient of the 2003 NEA development grant for Sacagawea.
