Steven Mark Kohn
Steven Mark Kohn has worn
many different creative hats. As a composer, he has written music for a number
of
award-winning children's films, including Frog and Toad Together,
Uncle Elephant, Cousin Kevin and
Morris Goes to School.
He has also scored three ABC Weekend specials: Commander Toad in Space,
and the Emmy-nominees Runaway Ralph and Ralph S. Mouse.
He has composed commercial and industrial music for clients including Wheaties,
Arby's, Volvo, M & M's, and others. His music can be heard nationally on NPR for
the Sylvia Rimm show as well as the 35-volume Time-Warner audio book series
"Health Journeys", which have sold over one million copies worldwide. His
Hymn for String Orchestra (published by Carl Fischer) has been recorded
by the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and his 27 Haiku and American
Folk Set for voice and piano are published by Classical Vocal
Repertoire. He has written incidental music and his opera Rite of Passage
was produced at the Banff Centre and Opera Ora-Now in Toronto. An independent
filmmaker with his brother Justin, he has written and directed several offbeat
films, which have been screened at festivals around the world. He has created
lyrics for the stage musicals The Quiltmaker's
Gift (Phoenix Theatre)
and The Tale of the Nutcracker
(Opera San Jose), both with music by Craig Bohmler. His short story
The Professor’s Diary was published in National Lampoon magazine.
He currently serves on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music as
Director of the Electronic Music Studio.
